“Oooo! Okay.” I’d explained my time-change problems to her before. I’m just not sure she gets them. Any normal person would have no problem calling back. I always get wrapped up in other things.

“I slept with someone,” I blurted out.

Silence.

“Jess?”

“Sorry,” she said. “Guess I needed a minute or two for that one!”

“Look, I really really like her but there’s this stuff…”

“What stuff?”

“Okay, you know how I’m all obsessed with that one show.”

“Yeah, the gay one?”

“Yes,” I said shortly. It was hard not to take offense. A lot of other things happened in the show. I would never classify any of Jessica’s favorite shows as: the straight one. I hated knowing that. To most of my friends, the show I loved most was commonly referred to as the gay one by others. I also hated that no matter what show it was I was obsessed with, to most of my high school friends it would always be referred to as the gay one or sometimes, even worse, the stupid gay one. I wanted to smack my forehead. How was it even possible that most of my high school friends just so happened to be forever rude??? I wouldn’t complain as much if shit like this didn’t constantly happen.

Jess didn’t even try to pretend we were similar here and that hurt.

“What about it?” She asked, completely oblivious to the small yet annoying mistake.

“Alyssa loves the show too.”

“Well, she is gay…” She thought on that a moment before asking, “What’s your point?”

“Well, you use Echo, you know how all that works. Fans find each other whether they mean to or not. We both already sort of knew each other online.”

Jessica started to laugh.

“Jess. Stop.”

“I’m sorry,” she laughed. “I’m sorry, go on. This is not pathetic at all. Continue.”

“Okay. You know what? Never mind.” Of course she would make me regret talking to her.

“ALIIIII!!!!” She begged, laughter chasing her.
